Do you long to write from a more deeply embodied place? Are you looking for a truly supportive community in which to strengthen your voice, for telling your stories — or your truths?
These writing salons provide a supportive container to help you connect body, heart, and mind through movement and the word.
Whether you identify as a writer — published or not, you’re a devoted journaler, or you just want to explore a new medium of self-expression, writing from a deeply embodied place can be transformative.
We'll use somatic movement, guided meditation, and evocative, spacious prompts to access the deep wells of memory and imagination. Our methods will be grounded in Gateless Writing, a facilitation approach that helps us sink into embodied knowing, write from that place, and offer feedback on our experience listening to each other's words that focuses exclusively on mirroring back each other's strengths.
As one participant said, "What can I say about Evelyn's class other than it's magical. She masterfully weaves a web of somatic grounding through gentle, meditative movements to beats that draw us away from our critical minds and to the page refreshed and available for what the creative mind has to offer.” -Dianne Germain
What to expect:
A brief check-in, followed by a moving meditation to settle in the body and open the portals of memory and imagination.
A free writing session opened by a spacious prompt.
The opportunity to share your writing aloud, and receive exclusively supportive feedback that identifies and celebrates your strengths. Reading aloud will always be optional.
Time to harvest what you've gained from the session.
This is for you if:
You feel called to engage with writing or journaling in a way that brings you deeper into self knowledge and claiming your truths.
You're longing to bring your body into your writing and/or bring words to what you feel in your body.
You'd like to grow confidence in your own voice by hearing your strengths reflected back to you.
It is not for you if:
You are attached to providing critical feedback to others on their writing from an academic or editorial point of view. We will not be criticizing or "improving" each other's work.
Another participant said: “There are very few places where you can be completely honest, accepted and bring yourself out from a place in your being that is often hidden, even to yourself. Such a place exists a Gateless Writing group. Simple guided movement and prompts helps the process, but the magic really happens with the presence of Evelyn Wright's welcoming presence and calming guidance. That I am writing more authentically and sharing it with others is a testament to the power of this process and this facilitator.” - SPC
